The 10 Commitments of the Eco-Responsible Tourist in Corsica

The Corsican Tourism Agency, in collaboration with various local and environmental organizations, has launched an initiative titled “The 10 Commitments of the Eco-Responsible Tourist.” This initiative aims to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly travel practices on the Isle of Beauty. By following these commitments, visitors can contribute to the preservation of Corsica’s natural landscapes, ecosystems, and unique cultural heritage while enjoying an enriching and authentic tourist experience.

Here are the 10 Commitments of the Eco-Responsible Tourist in Corsica:

  1. I prioritize sustainable accommodations (certified, and labelled, such as establishments in the “Rispettu” program mentioned in a previous article).
  2. I consume responsibly by purchasing local and seasonal products.
  3. I adopt frugal behaviour during my stay: I sort my waste, try to minimize its production and monitor my consumption of water and electricity.
  4. I preserve natural spaces by respecting guidelines and prohibitions, and I stay on marked trails when hiking.
  5. I carry a trash bag during my outings to avoid polluting the places I visit. I do not pick plants, but enjoy observing them.
  6. I favour gentle sports activities in natural environments.
  7. I consult the responsible diver’s charter before going on an underwater hike.
  8. I prefer biodegradable sunscreens to protect marine environments, lakes, and rivers.
  9. I limit motorized travel by favouring public transportation and soft mobility, notably discovering the GT 20 (Great Crossing of Corsica by bike).
  10. I use designated sites for emptying black and grey water when I am on a boat or in a camper van.

By adhering to the 10 Commitments of the Eco-Responsible Tourist in Corsica, each tourist can play a vital role in preserving the island’s natural and cultural beauty. Sustainable tourism is not just a responsibility but an opportunity to experience the island in a meaningful and respectful way, ensuring a positive impact for future generations. May your journey in Corsica be an unforgettable and sustainable adventure!
